It took a long time to decide that a second European Ecumenical Assembly would take place, and we had a very difficult period of preparation. Now I can say I am very happy about it, because so many people have come, and we have more participants from Eastern Europe than from Western Europe. I find this an enormous success.
In all events of the Assembly I see that there is a real dialogue going on between East and West, new forms of communication have been found.
I hope that this Assembly, as well as the first one did in Basel, 1989, will lead to stronger commitments, more clear ways for action for the churches together with all the groups which are represented here in the Ecumenical Village, in the Agora, as to how they proceed on their ways towards reconciliation.
